Academic Quality

A commitment to Academic Excellence

Academic quality is shaped by intentional oversight and continual evaluation.

Board Oversight and Academic Review

The Board of Directors reviews the Seminary’s progress, receives annual reports, and meets with senior students to assess strengths, identify improvements, and guide development. Faculty and board leadership work together to refine the curriculum and strengthen the academic experience.

Learning That Serves Ministry

Theological education at Sangre de Cristo Seminary is closely tied to real ministry.

Students gain clarity in teaching Scripture, confidence in defending the faith, and practical experience for service. From sermon preparation to pastoral care, training is designed to prepare students for the realities of ministry.

Evaluation of Instructors and Courses

Students consistently report strong satisfaction with both instructors and course quality.

From 2022 to 2024, instructors received an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.0, reflecting excellence in preparation, professionalism, instructional materials, student workload, opportunities for questions, adequacy of discussion, and fair testing/grading.

In 2025, Learning Objectives were added to the evaluation process to further strengthen clarity and alignment.

Ongoing Improvement

Our programs reflect decades of refinement.

Course offerings have been strengthened over time, and recent efforts include exploring live hybrid instruction—expanding access while maintaining meaningful faculty interaction.

Outcomes That Reflect Our Mission

Graduation rates have increased from 75% (2001–2016) to 89% in recent years.

Graduate Ministry Focus

Graduates serve in a range of ministries, with many entering pastoral ministry and others serving in Christian education. While the Seminary does not ordain graduates, we encourage each student to pursue the path best suited to their calling.

Comprehensive Assessment

Students are evaluated through projects that bring together everything they’ve learned.

The Spring Project and preaching seminars assess their ability to interpret Scripture, apply it faithfully, and communicate it clearly in ministry contexts.
